CHANGE IN INFRASTRUCTURE

from 2014 to 2018

Effects of the Air Raids

While Saudi Arabia and other countries within the coalition claim to only be bombing the Houthi strongholds, the results we see in the air and on the ground are quite different. Air raids have focused on a wide range of different forms of infrastructure from roads and buildings. Not only are military bases government buildings being bombed, but so are many other cites throughout the country. Hospitals, schools, and places of worship have all fallen victim to the horror of these attacks. However, shipping ports and airports have also been targetted from the start which plays a major role in the humanitarian crisis that is occurring.

Yemen relies on imports for 80% of their food consumption within the state. By targeting sea and airports, Saudi Arabia, and the other countries are within the coalition, are only worsening the food crisis that is occurring in Yemen. This explains why there has been an increase in vegetation gain since the start of the war, however. It seems that Yemeni people have had to resort to farming their own land in order to survive. Since roads, sea, and airports are continuously getting bombed, it makes nearly impossible for people to received food and aid. The air raids are not only focusing on roads, seaports, and airports, however. There are many satellite images that show towns, including schools and hospitals being bombed as well.

Below are Google Earth Pro images that show various parts of Sana’a, Al-Hudaydah, and Aden that have been bombed in the last three years. The image on the left will show the area before the bombing and the image on the right will show after the bomb had occurred. At the bottom of each image, there is also a time stamp, as well as the coordinates of the image.
